Acoustic Fences
We all prefer to work and live in a peaceful environment. Sound barriers are an effective way to reduce noise. Whilst our “normal” fences will dampen noise to some extent, for a little extra cost, sound barriers will reduce noise even further.
The best dampening materials are “heavy”. The more mass the better the dampening and muffling.
At The Fence Barn we construct fences using timber palings and acoustic ply. These materials can be used as perimeter fencing, gates and other stand alone barriers.
Timber Palings
 |
Standard palings have a nominal thickness of 16 mm and can reduce noise if they are lapped over each other. Our noise reduction palings are milled to thicknesses up to 25 mm, thereby increasing their mass. These palings are lapped over each other. The extra thickness and elimination of gaps will greatly reduce noise.
Height of the fence or barrier will also contribute, and the rule is, the higher the better. Generally fences can be 2m high without approval in Qld. Other states may be different. For sound barriers higher than this, you may need to consult an engineer or your local council

Acoustic Ply
 |
Our acoustic ply complies with Main Roads Queensland standard. This material can be seen on many of our freeways
Note- Sound is measured in decibels. Sound doubles or halves every three decibels. Noticeable results can be achieved by reducing sound in your home or office by even one decibel
